Legal notice and privacy

Santiago Camino is an independent guide to preparing the Camino de Santiago. It is not linked to the Oficina del Peregrino in Santiago, to the Xunta de Galicia, to the pilgrim associations, or to the accommodation and transport operators it mentions. Distances, elevation gains, the rules for obtaining the Compostela, mass times and timetables are taken from the sources cited at the bottom of each page and dated, but they change after our last check: an albergue closes for the season, a mass time moves, a bus line is withdrawn. This information helps you prepare the walk, it does not replace your own checks: confirm it with the official source before you leave. The walk, the choice of stages and the equipment remain the walker’s responsibility; the publisher cannot be held liable for the use made of the information published.

Hosting
The site is hosted by o2switch SAS, Chemin des Pardiaux, 63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France. Phone: +33 4 44 44 60 40. Website: www.o2switch.fr.
The site and its data, audience measurement included, are hosted in France on this server. The server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page requested, browser, date and time) for security and technical diagnosis; they are kept for 30 days at most and are not used for any behavioural analysis. Legal basis: the publisher’s legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Personal data
The data controller is the publisher of the site, GST LABS, whose details appear above.
The site collects as little data as possible: it has no form, no account, no comments and no advertising cookie, and no advertising tracker or third-party audience measurement tool loads on it. No consent banner is shown: the only service that sets cookies, the accommodation map, loads only when you ask for it. No consent banner is shown, because no processing requires one.
Cookies. The site sets no cookie while you read it. The wordpress_* and wp-settings-* cookies only appear if you log in to the site’s administration.
Map tiles. The maps take their background from OpenFreeMap, a free mapping service that needs no account or key. It loads as soon as the map comes into view, when the page opens if the map is visible straight away, otherwise when you scroll down to it: your browser then downloads the tiles from the openfreemap.org servers, which receive your IP address and the usual technical data of a web request (browser type, address of our site). The map engine, the routes, the markers and the accommodation layer are served by our own server. Legal basis: the legitimate interest in showing where the routes and stages are (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Accommodation map. On the route pages, a map of hotels, guesthouses and apartments in the stage towns is provided by Stay22. It loads only if you click “Show the accommodation map”; that choice is then remembered in your browser (local storage, no cookie from this site) for the other pages. Once loaded, the map sets its own cookies and sends Stay22 your IP address and the usual technical data of a web request; Stay22’s privacy policy then applies. Legal basis: your consent, given by that click (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). To withdraw it, clear this site’s data in your browser.
Fonts, scripts and photographs are served by the site itself: displaying them sends nothing to Google, Wikimedia or any other third party.
If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and your message. They are used only to reply to you, are passed to no one and are deleted once the exchange is over, or earlier on request. Legal basis: the legitimate interest in answering the messages we receive (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The site links to external websites: the Oficina del Peregrino, tourist offices, accommodation, transport operators. These are plain links, with no redirection and no commission, with one exception: the accommodation map is an affiliate service, and a booking made through it earns the site a commission at no extra cost to you. As soon as you follow a link, the privacy policy of the site you visit applies.
Audience measurement
To know which pages are read, the site uses Matomo, installed on its own server: no data is passed to a third party.
It works without cookies, the IP address is anonymised before it is stored (the last two bytes are masked) and the Do Not Track setting of your browser is respected. The statistics are aggregated and only used to improve the site.
This configuration meets the conditions set by the French data protection authority, the CNIL, for exempting audience measurement tools from consent (Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act and the CNIL guidelines on trackers). Legal basis: the publisher’s legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict its processing and to object to it.
Given what the site collects, these rights mainly concern the messages you have sent us.
To exercise them, write to [email protected] or by post to the publisher’s address; we reply within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr), or with the authority of your country.
This page changes when the site’s practices do. Any significant change is shown here with its date; last updated on 25 October 2026.

The routes, places and accommodation are © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL); the map background comes from OpenFreeMap, with the OpenMapTiles tile schema. The elevations of the profiles come from the Copernicus EU-DEM model (“Produced using Copernicus data and information funded by the European Union - EU-DEM layers”), completed by SRTM (NASA, public domain) where EU-DEM has gaps. Identifiers and structured facts come from Wikidata (CC0). Rules, timetables and statistics cite their dated official source at the bottom of each page.
